Watch Argentina vs Australia FIFA World Cup 2022 Live Streaming On 03 December

After escaping their groups in dramatic circumstances, just three days later Argentina and last-16 opponents Australia meet at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium on Saturday.

Both nations' World Cup adventures now continue into the knockout stages, following the Albiceleste's recovery from a shock opening loss to Saudi Arabia and the Socceroos' defeat of Denmark in midweek.

Having overcome a faltering start to their latest World Cup campaign, an Argentina squad fuelled by a hard-fought victory over Mexico in their second Group C fixture secured a spot in the last 16 by bettering a limited Poland side on Wednesday.

The South American champions saw talisman Lionel Messi spurn the chance to open the scoring from a contentious first-half penalty, but were ultimately rewarded for 90 minutes of dominance by leapfrogging their European opponents at the top of the group standings.

After Alexis Mac Allister - who had been promoted to the starting lineup as one of a handful of changes made by coach Lionel Scaloni - made the breakthrough only seconds after the interval, a 67th-minute strike from Julian Alvarez helped the Albiceleste to post a second successive 2-0 win.

As a result, for the 11th time in the last 12 finals the two-time world champions have progressed to the knockout phase, and they remain among many pundits' favourites to lift the World Cup trophy later this month.

While conditions will be the same for both his team and their next opponents, Scaloni has bemoaned the fact they will return to action after just over two days rest - particularly having followed such an emotionally draining route to the top of Group C. However, he knows that no excuses will be accepted by an expectant public back home in Argentina.

To combat concerns about fatigue, the Copa America-winning coach can call upon several talented players to have emerged from the fringes of his squad, such as Mac Allister, Alvarez and Benfica's Enzo Fernandez, though of course Messi still shoulders much of the creative burden.

Argentina's irreplaceable playmaker will surely be integral again, as they attempt to set up a quarter-final with either the Netherlands or United States, but he will need plenty of help from the supporting cast that put on a 36-game unbeaten streak only ended last week.

Given the gulf in stature between the two nations in football terms, it comes as no surprise that Australia have lost each of their last four meetings with Argentina - including a crucial playoff to reach USA '94 - though the Socceroos earned a 2-0 win when two very different squads clashed at last year's Tokyo Olympics.

Yet, Graham Arnold's men are riding the crest of a wave before they arrive in Al Rayyan for a date with destiny that sees them taking part in the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time since the fabled 'golden generation' of 2006.

The unfancied Socceroos defied expectations to finish second in Group D behind defending champions France, doing so only on goal difference after winning two of their three fixtures - against Tunisia and then Euro 2022 semi-finalists Denmark.

Beating the latter 1-0 at Al Janoub Stadium required both a fiercely-fought rearguard action led by Harry Souttar and goalkeeper Mat Ryan, and a wonderful winning goal from Matthew Leckie, which broke the deadlock in the 60th minute and ultimately sent them through to the last 16.

Realism is never far away from a pragmatic Australian side, largely made up of players on the fringe of things at their European clubs, so for all the euphoria their historic victory unleashed, they will be acutely aware of the step-up in class that awaits on Saturday.

Already swept aside by a fluent French team, who ran out 4-1 winners in the sides' opening fixture, Arnold's well-drilled unit will be outsiders to topple Argentina and make the final eight for the first time ever.

If they could somehow do so, jubilant scenes of fans celebrating on the streets of Melbourne in the early hours of Thursday morning would surely be matched - even surpassed - in Sydney, Adelaide and beyond.

Watch Netherlands vs USA FIFA World Cup 2022 Live Streaming On 03 December

The first game of the Round of 16 will see Netherlands facing USA. With no favourites in the knockout stage and particularly in a World Cup of Upsets, USA will go hard against the Dutch team. Netherlands will hope to continue their good group stage form as there is no room for error. Sports18 will have Netherlands USA Live Broadcast at 12:30 AM on Sunday. Watch FIFA WC LIVE

The Netherlands and the USA will commence the World Cup 2022 last-16 phase when they lock horns at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Louis van Gaal's side topped Group A to secure their passage into the knockout stages, while the Stars and Stripes placed second in Group B behind England.

A minor blip against Ecuador proved to be nothing more than a minor blip for the Netherlands, who were widely expected to advance to the last 16 as Group A winners and did not let the Oranje faithful down, taking seven points from their three matches.

Breakout star Cody Gakpo became just the fourth man in Netherlands history to score in three successive World Cup matches with his well-taken opener against Qatar on Tuesday, and Frenkie de Jong also got in on the act with a tap-in to confirm a first-placed finish and leave the hosts winless and pointless on their way to the exit door.

Concerns have arisen over the Netherlands' style of play at this World Cup, with Oranje only having eight shots on target so far, but Van Gaal has dismissed such worries as the 2010 runners-up prepare to tackle the World Cup knockout rounds once again.

By topping Group A, the Netherlands kept up their remarkable streak of progressing to the last 16 in every World Cup they have played in since 1934, and they have only been eliminated at this stage twice in the past 32 years - once in 1990 and then again in 2006.

Since their Euro 2020 elimination at the hands of the Czech Republic, the Netherlands have strung together an impressive 18-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, and Van Gaal is now out to record an 11th World Cup game without defeat - going level with second-placed Mario Zagallo and one behind the all-time record of 12 held by Felipe Scolari.

By putting his body on the line for the team and picking up an injury that required hospitalization, USA talisman Christian Pulisic sent his side through to the knockout stages of football's most prestigious event with the only goal of the game in their final Group B clash with Iran.

That winner-takes-all showdown was settled when Pulisic darted into space to finish from close range in the 38th minute, allowing Gregg Berhalter's side to leapfrog Iran into second place behind England and set up a tantalizing clash with the Dutch.

The Stars and Stripes also got as far as the last 16 in 2010 and 2014 before being eliminated, and a quarter-final appearance came the way of the U.S. as recently as 2002, but recent history against European nations in the World Cup does not favour Berhalter's crop.

Indeed, the USA have not beaten a UEFA team in the World Cup since 2002 - drawing six and losing five versus such sides since then - and their three previous knockout games against European nations at the World Cup have all ended in defeat.

Victory over Iran also marked a first win in six matches across all tournaments for the Stars and Stripes, who lost their first four clashes with the Netherlands in friendly encounters, but they recorded a stunning 4-3 win over Oranje as recently as 2015 - coming back from 3-1 down to win it late on thanks to Bobby Wood's 90th-minute effort.

Netherlands defender Jeremie Frimpong suffered an injury scare with his ankle on Wednesday before making a return to full training on Thursday, but Denzel Dumfries was always expected to line up on the right anyway.

Van Gaal should therefore have all of his troops available, but Matthijs de Ligt and Nathan Ake are walking a tightrope and will miss any potential quarter-final match should they receive yellow cards here.

An unchanged lineup could very well be on the cards for Oranje here, as in-demand PSV Eindhoven starlet Gakpo aims to become the first-ever Dutchman to score in four successive World Cup matches.

As for the USA, Pulisic is being monitored daily after suffering a pelvic contusion while scoring the winner against Iran, but the Chelsea attacker affirmed that he would be fine for Saturday in a congratulatory social media message posted from his hospital bed.

Berhalter also lost Josh Sargent to an injured ankle, although the extent of the damage will not become clear until the results of scans come through, while Weston McKennie is reported to be dealing with a quad problem to hand the USA another selection headache.

However, all three players are said to have good chances of being fit for the last-16 clash, so Berhalter will certainly look to stick with an untouched XI barring any late concerns.

Netherlands possible starting lineup:

Noppert; Timber, Van Dijk, Ake; Dumfries, De Roon, F. De Jong, Blind; Klaassen; Gakpo, Depay

USA possible starting lineup:

Turner; Dest, Carter-Vickers, Ream, Robinson; McKennie, Adams, Musah; Weah, Sargent, Pulisic
